Inner Wheel gets its third Paul Harris Fellow
The Inner Wheel Club of Hazel Grove now has a third Paul Harris Fellow, following the presentation of Rotary's highest honour to Lucie Meakin during an At Home event at 30 Manor Road.
Lucie joined the club more than 30 years ago, and was its president in 1986. Previous recipients of the Paul Harris award have been Jessie Cawley, who joined in 1961, and Vivien Bell, who joined in 1981.
On what he called "yet another memorable evening for Rotary", Derek Silverwood said the award was being made in recognition of Lucie's "outstanding support of services for children with special needs, to Inner Wheel and to Rotary."
Derek, a former president of the Rotary Club of Hazel Grove and district governor in 1998-99, spoke of Lucie's close involvement in the setting up of the special unit at Moorfield School and supporting it over many years.
"Your positive contribution has been outstanding", he said. "This award recognises your commitment and service to Inner Wheel, to Rotary and, in the wider community, to your concern for providing care and facilities for all children with special needs".
The Paul Harris medal and certificate were presented by Hazel Grove Rotary Club President John Miller.
Hazel Grove Rotary Club meets at 6.45pm on Thursdays at the Deanwater Hotel, Woodford
