Rotary President here for tree planting ceremony

Britain's top Rotarian, David Fowler, who is on a countrywide tree planting tour, came to District 1050 to plant a young rowan tree in the grounds of Hazel Grove's Torkington Park.

As head of Britain's 55,000 Rotarians, RIBI President Fowler has promised to visit each of the country's 29 Rotary districts to encourage clubs to become involved in environmental projects in their local community.

During the ceremony three other trees were planted in Torkington Park, one by the deputy mayor of Stockport, Cllr Stuart Corris, who also lives in Hazel Grove.

Helping to plant the others were District Governor Chris Welton, District Environmental Officer Steve Kimber, and a group of children from the Special Unit at Moorfield School in Lyndhurst Avenue.

Club President John Miller has received this message from District Governor Chris Welton: "Please pass on my congratulations to the Club for assisting so well with the tree planting.

"I thought it all went very well and I am sure you could tell that David Fowler was delighted with the whole event."
